Why is your hull better than a vee bottom?
Our hull is a full planing catamaran. This means that it will ride much smoother and be much more stable.

Will the ride be smoother?
The hull tunnel constricts as it moves to aft. This makes it impact air, and the air cushions the ride, especially in a short chop.
 
How does the boat perform?
Our 24' boats with a Mercruiser 350 MAG come on plane in 3.3 seconds with only 4 degrees of bow rise and obtain a max speeds in the mid-50s.
 
Does it corner flat, like other catamarans?
No! It corners like a small vee bottom runabout. It banks the corner.
 
How does it corner, compared to a vee bottom?
Better! At 40 mph it will turn a 30 ft. radius.
 
How long has Splendor been in business?
Since 1989. We have been making boat, automotive & agricultural parts since 1972.
 
Tell me about Doyle.
Doyle is a marine pattern maker. He has been making boat molds and boats since 1959. He has made the molds of complete boat lines for some of the major boat companies of today.
 
Why didn't he sell this design to a major boat builder?
Doyle came up with this basic design in the late 80's. He said it is the smoothest and most stable hull he has ever ridden and decided to market it himself.
 
Why should I buy a Splendor instead of a well known company's boat?
Setting aside the ride issue, the reason is simple, all of our boats are laid up by Doyle's two grandsons, Adam and Andrew and their team of experienced fiberglass workers. The assembly is done by hand, by master builders and apprentices, not on a mass production line.
 
Is there any wood in the boat?
Yes! We could be like the larger companies and save money going to composites only, but we believe that the proper way to build a boat is to encapsulate all the wood with fiberglass. This process costs more, but the boats that we've built over the years with encapsulated marine grade boat ply are still on the water today.
 
What are the stringers like?
The catamaran hulls have two A-frame bulk heads running sideways. They are encapsulated inside and out.Then the top of the "A" is drilled and filled
with foam.
 
Is there any other foam in the boat?
Yes. Besides the foam floatation, the keels of the boat have a foam core running fore to aft. This foam core is saturated with resin and covered with 24oz roven woven.

Do the 240 and 259 Deckboats require foam floatation?
No. The Coast Guard says boats over 20 ft do not have to have foam floatation. We put it in all of our boats anyway.
 
How much foam is in your boat?
Per the Coast Guard formula, there is enough foam to float the boat, all occupants & equipment load, plus 15% additional.
 
Tell me about the motor mounting.
All of our deckboat models that are equipped with an I/O have a plate steel mounting with 3/8" stainless bolts on the motor mounts. Our competitors still lag screw directly into fiberglass and wood.
 
What is the hull's lay-up schedule?
a. 25-30 mil polyester gel coat

e. Layer 18 oz. woven roven
f. Multiple layers 18 oz. woven roven in transom & keel areas
 
Tell me about your gel coat.
It is a polyester base. It is sprayed 25-30 oz. thick. We pay a premium per pound of gel coat for an extra UV inhibitor to help reduce fading.
 
Tell me about the quality of the boat.
All fasteners are stainless steel. All cleats are backed with heavy backing plates. We manufacture our own accessory wiring harnesses because no one makes one that meets our engineering standards.
 
Tell me about your quality control process.
After the builders build the boat, our in-plant marine engineer does a 200-point quality control check list, plus the check list that the motor manufacturer provides.

Yes, better than anyone else in the industry. Our repair crews are ready to satisfy our customer's expectations anywhere in the world.
 
Being a small company, how secure is your future? 
Our future is very secure. As a small family owned business we have had our share of ups and downs but have always stayed strong and pushed through the adversity. We are a well diversified company that does more than just custom boat building. We also manufacture parts for the agricultural, automotive and RV industries. We also maintain a full service fiberglass repair shop as well a marine services shop. Since many of today's boat companies have gone bankrupt, sold out or been repurchased we have become and will continue to be one of the strongest boat builders in the country.
  
Why does your boat not require a second motor on the outboard models like other catamarans?
We have perfected our hull design so our boat does not need a second motor to run properly. We designed the boat to function this way to help keep costs lower for customers and also allow you to enjoy the smooth quality of ride of a catamaran without the hefty price tag that many seem to hold.
